Interview with an Anti Hero

This interview originally aired over at Paranormal Cravings (a great site for reviews and other reading related things).

Paranormal Cravings: Welcome folks to our interview with known bad boy, Gene, from Eve Langlais, USA Today, bestselling book, Polar Bared.

(Gene sits in his seat glowering at the audience)

Paranormal Cravings: Gene, we are delighted you were able to join us today.

Gene: Well, I’m not. I’m only here because Vicky made me do it.

Paranormal Cravings (laughs): I have a hard time believing anyone can force you to do anything.

Gene: You’re right. No one can. And those that think to try, die. Usually screaming.

Paranormal Cravings: Um, okay. I see you’re living up to your reputation as the bad ass in the romance hero world.

Gene (grimaces): Don’t use that word.

Paranormal Cravings: What word? Hero?

Gene (shifts in his seat, clearly uncomfortable): That’s it. I ain’t no hero. Far from it.

Paranormal Cravings: And yet you’re the main male character in Polar Bared are you not? Usually that makes you the hero of the story.

Gene: I prefer the term anti hero. Or psychopath. Hell, I’ll even settle for villain who sees the bloody light, just don’t compare me to one of those tight and cape wearing idiots who want to save the world.

Paranormal Cravings: What’s wrong with helping people out?

Gene: Nothing. But it doesn’t make a man a hero. People should do things because it’s right, not because of a title.

Paranormal Cravings: Speaking of right, I hear in books one and two of Kodiak Point (which for those out of the loop are called Kodiak’s Claim and Outfoxed by Love), that you did some pretty despicable stuff in the name of revenge.

Gene: I had anger issues.

Paranormal Cravings (arches a brow)

Gene: Big anger issues. I’ve gotten over most of them at this point.

Paranormal Cravings: I hear your catalyst for change was the fact your old army buddies forgave you for your acts and invited you back into their fold.

Gene: Assholes. How is a man supposed to plot revenge when they’re throwing around forgiveness like it’s fucking candy at Halloween.

Paranormal Cravings: Yet our old military buddies aren’t the only reason you gave up a life of villainy. I hear a certain lady played a part.

Gene: Vicky? Yeah. She deserved better than a man on the run. Actually she deserves better than me, but my crazy nerd girl has some funny notions where I’m concerned. Turns out she’s better off with me around, even if it’s dangerous for other folk.

Paranormal Cravings: Dangerous how?

Gene: I have jealousy issues. (He shrugs.) But I’m okay with it. It means I get to hit things.

Paranormal Cravings: I hear you have a special nickname for Vicky. Care to share it?

Gene (wide grin on his face): Pima. Which before you harass me stands for Pain in my Ass.

Paranormal Cravings: Is it true you met by accident when she slammed into you while you were in polar bear form.

Gene: Yup, then immediately fainted. She’s cute that way.

Paranormal Cravings: So now that you’ve settled down, what are you future plans?

Gene: There are still enemies out there looking for me. Scores that need settling. My military brothers and I are dedicated to keeping the clan at Kodiak Point safe.

Paranormal Cravings: What about your plans for Vicky?

Gene (slow, sexy and wicked smile crosses his face): Those are really none of your fucking business, but I will say they involve screaming. And clawing. But, trust me when I say, she won’t be fainting from fright. Although, she might black out from pleasure.

Paranormal Cravings (fans themselves): Oh my. Well, I guess this concludes our rather interesting interview with the um—(looks questioningly at Gene) anti-hero of Polar Bared. Stay tuned for the continuing saga in Kodiak Point with the upcoming stories titled Caribou’s Gift, Wolf’s Capture and Grizzly Love.
