Lent- a time for introspection

Lent is the 40 day preparation before Easter. And a time to listen. Everyone and every buzzing object clamours for our attention. It gets us crazy involved, tricking us into thinking that its about us, we tweet, whatsapp, facebook and instagram constantly so that our voices are heard. When no one hears us we try even harder. Soon our time is consumed, our energy is zapped and we are running on empty.

Lent is a time when we listen maybe to our own voice, or the voice of someone in need, or the voice of God in different people. Its not about what we give up but why we give up what we do. Today its a very me centric world, and God tells us its all about Him.

My tips especially for my fellow Catholics, don't tell people what you've given up. You will be tempted to share. A need to share will erupt in your belly and you will want to erupt to the world about the sacrifice you're making, but don't. Your Father who sees all things in secret knows your sacrifice and understands your pain.

Sign up for something extra. The rule of 10 does not apply to your money, its applies to your time and talent as well. Seek to grow spiritually. There are dozens of resources to choose from sign up for one.

Use Lenten reflections to help you everyday. Its not going to be easy. The Catholic way of life is hard as it is. Still yourself, that's even harder to do. But know that He is with you.
A lot of my friends this year have already experienced some sort of revival in the last few days and we're just into Lent two weeks. Imagine what a lifetime of Jesus commitment could bring?

I wish every one a meditative time at Lent. You may not realize it but God is changing you from the inside out. Let every tear, every failure, every pang of hunger, every string of jealousy, every shred of pride, every need for revenge, every hurt, every splinter of brokenness, every disappointment, every sliver of sickness and more be surrendered to God Himself, who actually had to die to prove to the world the measure of His love. Have you found some one who could do that for you.
I haven't and probably never will. Jesus, lover of my soul, still the only one.
