Here are the winners of the Goodreads best books of 2014 contest. And yes, Coeur de Lion is still sulking at not making it to the final round. Not totally his fault, though, for kings are not taught how to be good sports. I explained to him that he should be honored by the nomination since there were some very talented writers in the mix, but he just cocked an Angevin brow at that, looking very much like his sardonic sire. LOL, Blair. The annoyed Angevin might not find that funny, but I definitely do. Leave it Richard to get the sarcastic last word on his deathbed. He "bequeathed" his entrails to Chalus as a final insult to the "treacherous" lords of the Limousin. Not having a medieval king's ego, I was quite honored to be included even for two rounds. The novel that won for best historical fiction has gotten rave reviews and I definitely would like to read it.
Yes the winning novel is definitely worth reading but IMO King's Ransom was so much better! Do not get me started on the Fantasy winner, what a huge disappointment it was as the final book in the series.

The winner in the Fantasy category was "The Book of Life" by Deborah Harkness. But I haven't read it yet. I take such a long time to read anything, it's rare for me to read something the same year it gets published! Unless it's sometging that can be read quickly, like a graphic novel.
