NEED A BREAK? REBLOG WITH A SMALL SNIPPET FROM YOUR NANO/WIP

It seemed like only moments before they were approaching a fence that marked an area of the woods that looked clearly different than the rest. The trees had gone barren. They were a different sort of tree, the kind with needles in clumps and pine cones, though Chloe honestly knew nothing of that sort of thing. She noticed that the bark had gone almost grey on these trees and an eerie fog hung over the naked forest floor. It made it easier to see clear though to the other side where the other chain link fence stood, and the rest of the forest continued on as normal. She could see across only part of this area, like the total fenced in area was longer than it was wide, or perhaps it was an unusual shape that Chloe couldn’t imagine looking at it from the ground where she was. The car slowed to a halt as they approached the fence, and Chloe saw that along the top there was rusted barbwire. It looked old, and worn, like patches of it might not even work to deter someone who was trying to climb over. Then again, a rusted cut might be worse than another kind. She certainly wouldn’t want to find out.

“One second,” Ayden said, and stepped out of the car, leaving it running. Chloe’s nerves were buzzing now. What in the hell is this place? she wondered. It was supposed to be a training facility of some kind, like a military academy. It looked like an abandoned testing facility where they experimented on prisoners of war. Ayden went up to a small box and flipped up a rusted metal door. Chloe couldn’t quite make out what he was doing, but it looked like he was pressing something like buttons. Behind the old chain link fence and tucked between the dilapidated trees, Chloe could see old buildings rising out from the pine littered forest floor. Their paint was chipping and their windows were broken out, and there didn’t seem to be a single light on in the place. Then Chloe spotted what looked like the only modern building. It was off to the left and the gravel path led directly up to a gravel parking lot with little cement blocks to denote parking spaces. It was a medium sized building, like the size of a small grocery store or a large gym. The title on the front of the building said “Water Treatment Co.” Could that be any more vague? Chloe wondered as Ayden got back in the car, the gate rattling open with effort.
