Uggh. Okay, it's official: I HATE the new Batgirl. It's completely substance-over-form, Babs has barely any depth, the stories thus far don't make any sense unless everyone in them is dumb... But the worst sin of all is that no less than TWICE has Dinah to

Okay, I disagree with this assessment. It’s uncomfortable for me to keep on about it because I only read the first issue and the baton is completely passed, but I think the new team are doing a credible new version of Batgirl and a lot of people are responding to it in a big way. It’s a talented bunch. Sales are way up, reviews are very positive. There are a lot of versions of Batgirl out there and I think they have put a great deal of thought into this version, and a lot of people are giving Batgirl a try for the first time. And as I have said a lot, I love the fashion, that is very welcome in a comic with a young female lead.

But in this case, I have to defend editorial, my understanding is that the new team wanted to start completely fresh with no previous characters at all, and it was editorial who insisted that Alysia continue to be included. That is always fair, in my view, it’s completely understandable when a team wants to start completely fresh, particularly since the tone is so different (which I am happy about, Babs DEFINITELY needed some lighter stories!).  In this case, editorial did a nice thing.

The new bat editorial team is really quite exceptional and I am glad that they asked for Alysia not to be removed entirely.

Sorry to keep clarifying this but I know how these things can grow in the telling. The editorial edict about no other friends for Babs was from a previous editorial group.

Hope that all makes sense.
