‘Title is Untitled’ Review by Rajashree Ghosh
Titled is Untitled by Santosh Avvannavar, Kundan Srivastava and Raghunath Babu Are is a compilation of eleven wonderful short stories. This book can be called a work of ‘fiction for a cause’ (just like Dr. Sandeep G. Huilgol’s and Santosh Avvannavar’s Second Heart) as each story in it imparts knowledge and awareness about the social prejudices that is plaguing our society. The book address some serious issues like prohibition of child marriage, it asks some poignant question like “Can the age for a girl to legally get married be 21 instead of 18?”, which is so very true.
In the battle between good and evil, though we all know that good wins yet we have allowed the ‘bad’ to dominate us many times, to get the better of us, and so the result is an extremely wicked world. We tend to move towards evil knowing full well that it will harm us. Through the elven short stories, the authors have tried to point out that the Invasion of evil has taken away the title or designation of people (sister, mother, etc.) and made it untitled ( that is, victim, whore and others). In other words, when it comes to lawlessness and oppression, no one is spared. That is why, the book is very aptly titled, “Titled is Untitled”. The authors have used a very simple narrative style so that their readers can relate to the goings-on of the society they live.
