Today is Jillian Jacob's birthday and Water's Threshold's release day! Celebrate with us.
Tell us about the main character. What inspired you to develop this
character?
The main character, Maya Conway came about as I considered all the paranormal books about vampires. They survive off blood, but water is a crucial part of everyone’s existence. So, I created a girl who survived off water. The natural progression then led to the elements.
While reading Water’s Threshold, I noticed you had several facts about Mother Earth and her properties. How did you research the data for this book?
Actually, a lot of witchcraft books relate back to Mother Earth. I borrowed books from the library on the subject of elements and spell casting. There are a lot of characteristics attached to each element. I kept as close to those
representations as I could. I had fun creating the vision of Mother Nature. I imagine, she’s quite beautiful. I hope you walk away from this book with a vivid picture of her in your mind.
This is series. Can you tell us about the other books in the series, and what we might expect for the future?
The next book is Fire’s Field. Flint’s story Following that will be Air or Nodin’s story. Actually, I was stuck about the final book. The direction. Then, as I was writing Fire’s Field the solution just came to me. Huge light bulb moment. The outline of Fire’s Field is done, but it wasn’t suspenseful enough. I stepped away and noodled over this, and finally, once more had an, aha! moment. So, needless to say, Flint will have his hands full.
Which authors have influenced you?
I’ve sort of meshed my writing style. Consider what I write a cross between, Nicole Jordan, Kat Martin, and Karen Marie Moning.
I often hear people say they should write a book. What made you
start writing?
Honestly, a $3,000 federal tax bill. Yikes. I am a self-employed individual, and decided I needed more income. A year and a half later I’m so far in the red, it isn’t even funny. However, I’m hoping for big things. So buy my books. LOL.
I’ve been a romance reader since forever, and thought, I can do this, no problem. Um, no. My biggest advice is learn the way to WRITE RIGHT.
What type of effort did it take to bring your book to fruition and do you belong to any writing groups?
Funny you should ask this question, it took you, Mrs. Catalina. Your support got me here. I do belong to writing groups. Indiana Romance Writers of America has been crucial to my growth. I also have a sub-group, called The Juicebox. Check out our Juicebox Dialogues videos on YouTube.
Can you share something from your current work in
progress?
An unedited excerpt? Sure, here is one from Fire’s Field:
“So you’ve found me.” She waved her hands in the air at her sides. “What
now?”
“Now, I make sure you don’t have any regrets.”
Violet stuttered out a laugh. “You won’t control me. I can easily destroy
you.”
“Ah, now, my violet, that I would
regret.”
The evening’s chill dissipated in his presence. Should she flee? Use her powers to shock him? Powers she’d been cursed with, or so it seemed at times. No regrets. That viewpoint was easy for a man who knew he’d live more lifetimes. She blew out the candle and turned to study the human personification of fire, lounging in her leather recliner.
A hazy gray aura seemed to surround Flint, blocking, creating a distance. To keep others at bay? A subtle warning? Yet, he wasn’t the only one with power.

In a tourist town at the base of the Tetons, Maya Conway, a mythical being known as an Elemental, stands at a crossroads. On her current path, she is content using her life force—water—to protect humans and the environment. Her direction is altered when Mother Nature taps her to guide Terran Forrester, an analytical scientist, on his journey to become the next Elemental—Earth. If Maya crosses into his world, will her lonely heart find a partner or will his rational mind reject her otherworldly existence? When an ancient evil evolved from dark matter shadows their steps, which path will they choose—logic or love?
