Gorcyca should pay!

“According to Gordon, the legal fees for the former prosecutors, which amounted to more than $600,000 before this trial, have been covered by Oakland County. She did not know whether the judgment against Gorcyca will be paid by the county’s insurance policy since he was no longer a county employee when he made the disparaging statements.

At press time, Potter and Gorcyca had not responded to phone messages and emails requesting comments”

No verification if this is true but The Oakland Press is questioning if Oakland County insurance will cover Gorcyca’s jury judgment of $1,000,000. The jury gave a detailed explanation as to what Gorcyca did to warrant the judgment. Gorcyca defamed the Wendrow family to the media after he had left office. Why should the County pay?

Gorcyca’s bad karma bit him. The original federal complaint was somewhat vague on what damage had been done to the Wendrows. Certainly Gorcyca had no inclination, or anyone on the Court legal team had any inclination that the jury would focus 1/3 of the judgment on the comments Gorcyca had made after the charges had been dropped by his office.

I’m guessing Gorcyca’s arrogance and defiant manner on the witness stand heightened the jury’s attention to his transgressions against the Wendrows, especially since he had no remorse. The jury picked the worse thing he did and then set a price of which the family was entitled.

The jury was pretty conservative in it’s judgment. Andrea Dean missed the bullet almost completely. The County isn’t going to consider appealing. Gorcyca is entirely at the Oakland Court’s mercy if they are going to slip the million dollar settlement onto the insurance carrier claim. If the Oakland Press has already questioned who pays the million, they know Brian Dickerson will surely be asking questions.

This story is far from over. Could Gorcyca face licensing action, if not federal criminal charges? I don’t know, but we’ll see.
