Mark 1:1 The Messianic Secret

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.


//Mark’s Gospel is known for many peculiarities, and one of them is this matter of the Messianic Secret. Mark begins his gospel with this verse, introducing Jesus. Then, throughout the story of Jesus, he portrays the disciples as dim-witted, unable to grasp that their master is the Messiah. The Son of God.


Everybody else knows Jesus is the Son of God. Demons knew. Evil spirits would shout, “You are the Son of God.” The madman of Gadar...

Joshua Woodward Thanks for the post, I am just fascinated that the original gospel ends with the instruction to tell the disciples, and Peter, that he is going before them to galilee.

Joshua Woodward Simply because, as you know, Peter refers to Mark as "my son" It just strikes me as very nostalgic on the part of Mark. A much more meaningful ending in my opinion. Also I suspect the concept of "going before" meant a lot more than just face value to these early disciples. Reminds me of Paul's statement of "good works He has prepared"
