When I see the scars on my body

I think of their lingering presence

as a map of my tormented past.

I do not dwell on what once held me back.

I look at the marks on my skin

to remind myself that nothing can stop me

from traveling ahead.

I will not let myself be led astray.

I know that I can continue on

this journey that I was meant

to endure and to complete.

I can defeat anything after seeing what I’ve seen.

- Your scars are your history and we’ve always been taught to never repeat what kept us from growing,
