Chapter 260: Ambush
Dorum and a copper-haired Caretaker sat with twenty-some newfoundlings. Stardust on lashes for newness. Fingers on lips for hushing. Twinkles in eyes for laughter.
Taweel slowly lowered himself to one knee.
“Have we surprised you?” Dorum inquired lightly.
Taweel’s jaw worked, but no words came.
The Caretaker nudged several boys forward. “The gobsmacked one with the pixie accessory is your new minder. Take heart! You have him outnumbered!”
“My wings ….” Taweel’s throat closed. He lifted blurring eyes to Tamaes.
With a smile that was all fondness, he finished the welcome. “This is Taweel, and his wings are our shelter.”
