I don’t know about you, but settings are a big deal for me in stories. For example, in Megan Shepherd’s The Madman’s Daughter, much of the book takes place on an island, in a small village constructed by a mad scientist and filled with creatures of the scientist’s own creation. Megan does an outstanding job of showing us what the island and the buildings look like, a skill that I’m not quite sure I’ve yet mastered.
