Hi, ms Simone. This week i will be doing 2 huge tests ( Something like the SATs in my country) and the pressure is killing me. I feel so depressed that i can barely get out of bed and most of my friends are ignoring and not talking to me, because they are

Here’s the thing, though, anxiety doesn’t help, and it can easily keep building and then it’s no longer a background noise, it’s your sworn enemy.

You CAN give yourself breaks, give yourself permission not to think about your tests for half an hour, do something you like, even if it’s not comics. Even condemned prisoners get to walk the yard or read magazines or SOMETHING.

Give yourself that permission. Even if it’s just to go get some french fries or play a game or listen to music with your eyes closed.

Because, here’s the thing, those of us who have deadlines every day, we HAVE to learn to cope somehow. And almost everyone I know has learned to give themselves a moment where they put their worries in a box for half an hour. It pays off, they come back stronger and less anxious.

Now, this is just what works for me, it’s not advice for someone who is suffering from a clinical problem or a severe depression. But you asked for advice on tests, and my advice is, I swear, go buy a Slurpee and sit and watch Father Ted for half an hour or something. You can’t function if there’s no recharge. It’ll be all right.

Let me know how it goes, okay? Give yourself a recess. You will do better because of it.
