Social Networking

Carly Icon

At the conference I mentioned last week there was alot of talk about social networking as the new and most valuable means of promotion. For those of us on Twitter, Facebook and who visit blogs, this isn't news. But it did get me wondering: what sites are most important to you as READERS? For example a few years ago, I'd wake up and check a long list of blogs. These days I'm more likely to check Facebook and Twitter. But I realize I'm probably missing a whole load of places that could tell me about books, authors, etc.

So tell me about your web browsing these days. What sites do you like and hit daily and why?

FYI I had a longer post written on my iPhone. IT DISAPPEARED. I'm so frustrated! :boohoo: But this is what I remember wanting to talk about in a shorter version. And as I said, I think it's a nice jump from Leslie's blog this week!

Erin Really, I don't social network. I'd rather talk to my friends. Yes, occasionally I go to facebook and say hello to people from high school, but I haven't stayed friends with any of them, so I don't go there often. I know several people who have moved away that are on there as well, and I enjoy seeing them on there. But I feel like checking it daily is a big waste of my time. Did I mention I'm mostly a stay at home mom? I work evening hours, but I'm home all day while my kids are in school. My goal for each day is to get some housework done and clean a bit of the house. I do spend quite a bit of time on the computer, but I have to limit the 'junk' time as I call it. I write stories on the computer, and if I get dragged into facebook, I don't get anything done. Here on goodreads is my biggest indulgence. In between all of that housework, I read, and I love to see what's good to read next. I've only recently discovered that if I become a fan of my favorite authors I'll see posts such as yours. :) I love your books, by the way. Thanks for writing them!

Carly Phillips Thanks for replying! I think because I'm on the computer all day writing, social networking becomes more important. Everyone has their interests too that keep them busy. I read of course and also knit!

Erin You must have more self control than I have! If I go someplace else (like goodreads or facebook) I can get 'stuck'. Better for me to just check my e-mail, then get to work. Kind of how they say if you have insomnia, don't watch tv or read in bed. Same thing for me, I guess. Yeah, I need more self control!
