Tamaes slowly shook his head. “We have no newfoundlings.”
“Yet. They arrive at regular intervals in every encampment.”
“Not ours.” Tamaes’s jaw tightened. “I should take you to Taweel.”
Taji fell in step. “It’s strange. We were talking about you earlier.”
“We?”
“Bern’s thoughts often touch mine. He remembers our early days with great fondness.”
“And Jacinto?”
Taji nodded. “We’re closer than ever.”
Tamaes felt so out of touch. If not for his distinctive wing patterns, he wouldn’t have even recognized Taji. “I have fallen short as your Fourfold brother.”
“Now you’ll be able to make up for lost time.”
