Letting it just happen...
I have to preface this by saying that most of what I write/say is 'double entendre' - in essence, there are at least two meanings to most of what I think about...but anyway....I haven't written in a while because I've been going absolutely nuts trying to complete final edits on my first book (now back in the hands of my editor, thank God!) and working on a number of coypwriting projects for DHL ('cause you gotta pay the bills somehow). So, you might expect that 'just letting it happen' refers to me needing to relax and wait for my writing to be published....but it isn't.
If you've been reading the news, you're probably aware about the story of two young indian girls who were gang-raped in a field near their house by a group that allegedly included POLICEMEN, before being killed and hung from a tree. Terrible. If you haven't read about it, a link to the news article is here:

In similar news, a Malaysian girl was gang-raped for hours by 38 men while her calls from help were ignored by neighbors. Also pretty horrific stuff, a link to this news is here : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2644656/Malaysian-girl-15-gang-raped-38-men-hours-lured-abandoned-hut-used-drug-haunt.html
So, your probably thinking....awful stuff but it there are 'third world' countries and this kind of crap doesn't happen around where I live, right? Okay, so maybe it happens, but certainly if people were party to it, if they heard and saw it, they would do something...because especially in modern societies, people have no problem sticking their nose in to do 'what's right'.
Except I witnessed a bout of violence right outside my window yesterday and I was shocked that NOBODY attempted to stop it or report it....despite the fact that it was happening less than 50ft from a police station that ANYONE could have walked into. Instead, I looked on in horror as some guy beat the crap out of his girlfriend....at 1pm in the afternoon on a beautiful day in a wealthy nice neighborhood, including pinning her against the window of a fancy design shop....in front of hundreds of people on the sidewalk and even construction workers who were working outside my building...UN-FREAKING-believable?! Even though I only speak a little Czech, I was about to run downstairs to the police department that is almost under my building when the guy knocked his girlfriend to the ground and she finally started yelling for help just as several policemen walked out of the office....thankfully, they came and arrested the guy and rescued the girl but doesn't this seem like a major warning signal?
I dunno, but somehow I thought that 'first world' societies were more progressive about doing the right thing....but now I'm not so sure....it seems like most people are willing to 'just let it happen'.....something to think about.
