Homeschooling can't be done right now because people have to work full time, and in many families both parents have to work.If it was possible though, I think the best system would be a combination. Some things can be learned just fine in a large group, so government schools would work for that, maybe one day a week. You don't need to be in school full time, it's ludicrous. Government/private tutors would be able to teach other things much more efficiently to an individual or a small group, so they can do in one day what a school would take a week to do. Finally, parents would teach their children just by setting an example, talking to them, etc. which they could easily do if they had more support and perhaps the tiniest bit of training. Parental education is the natural way.
But it's not possible, at least not right now, because nothing is considered to have value unless it puts another dollar in a rich man's pocket. Even something as important as education is rarely spoken of in terms other than what effect it will have on the economy.
Speaking now as someone who got neck-deep in the education system in an effort to change it, I can tell you... it's going to be a very long road to reform the misinformed and misunderstood assumptions about how children and people in general learn, what qualifies as curriculum, and so on. The biggest obstacle is - always - the institutionalisation of knowledge, and the ways governments prioritize education. Capitalism does not favour equality. That's a bugger right there. Capitalism does not actually favour freedom, either. Teaching people to question the system that governs them ought to be the first priority of education. That's the one thing, I suspect, that the institution of education does not really want.

The scriptures says, "there is nothing new under the sun.."
I wonder sometimes if civilizations are really all that civilized when looking at the thousands/billions of years big type of picture. How can we assume that we are getting better at anything?
I really enjoyed the thoughts here.
If you could choose, which system would be the best to subject a child to if it were your child; government schooling or private schooling?
Also, take into consideration the placing of such a choice onto an entire country. Could every household be trusted with such a commitment as teaching the upcoming presidents, lawyers and governors of our nation(s)?
Just for the sake of conversation...
