POETRY: AN APPLE A DAY BY PAUL TRISTRAM

“An apple a day

keeps the doctor away!”

I said sitting down

in the examination room

with a case of gut rot.

“Yes, young man, but

cheap white cider

has never seen a orchard,

it is all chemicals

Come back with something

serious, like a broken leg.

I have other patients

waiting to see me,

the off licence

is down that way.

Goodbye!”
