message 1: by Emily (new)

Emily Kidd I love to read, especially fiction. It does provide an escape from reality and real life problems… but I think this is part of the problem in our culture, why media is so central. We are so focused on us and how we can make ourselves feel better that we forget to reach out to others. We lack experience in real life situations because, 1. we do not get out and expose ourselves, 2. we do everything through technology and/or the internet. This is why relationships are crumbling, divorces are skyrocketing, the traditional family is becoming extinct, and why so many people THINK they need to depend upon the government for free handouts. One of the key principles this country was founded upon, and I would go as far as to say THE key principle that saved Jamestowne, the birthplace of America, from ruination was the Biblical dictum "he who shall not work shall not eat". It is innocent fun and entertainment to use and engage the imagination, we just have to be careful that we do not become obsessed with what we know cannot be real and turn it into something we are willing to follow just because we want for it to be real so desperately.
