“Catherine!”
I yell out into the night, as loud as my voice will let me. My chest
heaves. “Catherine! I need you! You gotta believe me. I'm just a
loser. I was trying to save you from me. But I need you to save me
from myself. All you've gotta do is just talk to me. That's it. I
just need someone to talk to.”

The
curtains split and she raises the window back up. “Okay. But that's
it. Nothing else. I could never see myself with you.”

Her
words. Biting into me.


I
bottom out again.

I
rise back up to the top.

I'm
not willing to give up on this.









“I
wouldn't want you to,” I say. The words tumble out of mouth, but
the pain behind them is heart stabbing. I want to be the guy she'd
want to see herself with. I'm miles away from that. Light years,
maybe. “Can I come up?”
