A Word About... Swearing

Ahhhh, the swear word, the curse, the obscenity, the good ol' bleeped out sentence.

Why do we do it? Is it cultural? Regional? Emotional? All of the above?

Yes, my characters swear. A lot. Yes, I grew up this way, it wasn't uncommon for an entire casual conversation to be littered with curses. In the South where I live now? Not so much.
