The Anna Warner Bailey Chapter of the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution (CTDAR) will serve tea, finger sandwiches and cake on bone china.
The keynote speaker, author Lisa Saunders of Mystic, will discuss the September 6, 2014, opening of a 100-year-old time capsule sent to the U.S. during WWI. The soldered-shut tin case had been placed in a wooden box and mailed from Zurich, Switzerland, by former Groton resident, Abby Day Slocomb, to the regent of the Anna Warner Bailey Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. Abby Day Slocomb is the founder of the Anna Warner Bailey Chapter. The time capsule was opened at the Chapter's meeting held on September 6 in honor of the anniversary of the Battle of Groton Heights. In addition to news clippings of what is now known as WWI, was a letter written on Thanksgiving Day of 1914 addressing women of 2014. The time capsule will be on display at the tea.
Proceeds from the tea fundraiser will benefit several civic projects such as Good Citizen, American History Essay and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) student awards.
