Copycat by David Yow – Review and Giveaway

Here is another giveaway Sparkle didn’t get a chance to do, and it is another very special one! It’s a cool cat art book called Copycat: and a Litter of Other Cats by David Yow. My human got very excited when she found out about it because she is familiar with David Yow’s work — not as an artist but for his legendary punk rock presence in Scratch Acid, The Jesus Lizard and Qui! Little did she know, he was also a trained and very talented painter and digital artist. She was so excited, in fact, that word spread all the way to Yow’s publicist, who asked her to be moderator for his appearance at Stories Books and Cafe in Echo Park, just a few minutes from where we live.

Art from the book was on display at the store that evening.

My human really enjoyed being moderator for David Yow’s appearance, although she felt like he could totally have done it without her. He’s smart and funny and answered questions about cats, art, acting (yet another talent of his) and, of course, his bands.

For the art in Copycat, Yow put together photographs, textures, artistic skills and wit to create a neat coffee table book! This one, as you may have guessed, is called Bobcat.

Sometimes, like with Catacomb here, it’s a little macabre.

Or it’s cool and pop art-like.

The only thing I did not like about Copycat is that, according to my human, kitties are not supposed to eat it.
