The Bechdel Test is supposed to be a sort of test to tell if a movie (or anything really) has adequate female representation. The test is: 1) Is there at least 2 females sharing screen time, 2) do they have a conversation about 3) anything other than a man.
Here’s my only problem with this. Most days of my life would not pass this test, not because all I talk about is boys, but because most of my friends are men, and I don’t like the idea that just because I don’t have a lot of female friends I wouldn’t count as a “strong female role” so to speak. In my opinion, the test should be 1)Are there at least 2 female characters 2) do both of those characters have a conversation (possibly separate conversations, and possibly with a man) that isn’t about a man or flirtatious/ related to sex in any way. If you were to apply this rule, movies like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings would now pass, as well as others with lead female roles. I think it’s fair, what do you all think? I’m curious.
