A friend gave me a dozen or so pear apples. Never having heard of them, I wasn’t sure how they tasted. So, being an adventurous sort, I sliced a piece first. A little tart and a lot grainy, I decided the texture reminded me of a raw pear with a mild taste of apple thrown into the mix. However, the fruit is hard and I had been warned that baking them like an apple would take twice as long. I decided to cut the lot up and use my trusty crockpot. It worked and no increase in time was necessary. I froze the result and as soon as time permits, a pear apple cobbler and a bunch of turnovers are in my future.
They may not be pretty but they do taste great when cooked or baked.
I like the crockpot for making fillings that can be frozen.
