BLURB:
In book two of the Biosphere Series: Many centuries from now on a dark, gritty prison world, life is cheap and hope is as scarce as sunlight. Dark World is proof that the future is not always bright.
Tess Logan is an agent for the Resistance, an organization opposed to the Overseer Government. When she is captured and sent to Dark World as punishment, her life seems to be over. That is, until she meets Vincent—a mysterious and handsome man who is as powerful as he is charming.
The problem is Vincent is a vampire, or a victim of the xenovirus 423, depending on your perspective. Can she trust Vincent with her secrets? Can she trust him with her love?
Paula Wright is a prison shuttle pilot who crash lands on Dark World, hurt and stranded. There is a war going on and danger is everywhere. Fortunately, an attractive human soldier and commander named Jerod rescues her from the hot jungle, and helps nurse her back to health.
Paula’s sharp mind is cautious, but her body is willing, and soon she finds herself falling for the tall, dark man. Suspense and steamy passions combine to form a dangerous bond, as they try to stay alive on a world that wants them dead.
On Dark World, the thrills are high…and the stakes are even higher!
EXCERPT:
Tess Logan was one of the best operatives working for the Resistance. She was smart, resourceful, and beautiful—rare qualities to find all in one person. The Overseer council also wanted her for high treason. If caught, that meant a one-way ticket to a “Dark World”, a place no human would ever want to go. Most Dark Worlds started as a place the Overseers sent human experiments gone wrong. Later, they were used as penal colonies. Once a person was sent to a Dark World, there was no escape.
Tess was walking down a busy city street and quickly turned a corner and jogged up some steps leading to an apartment building. She knocked and allowed the door’s retina scanners to read her eyes. The door opened and a tall bald man escorted her inside.
“This had better be important, Terrance,” Tess said, draping her coat on a nearby coat rack. “I was about to strike a deal with an arms agent when I got your call. The call spooked the dealer and he backed out of the deal. I should have turned off my communicator.”
“I’m glad you didn’t,” Terrance replied, ushering her into another room that had two other people sitting at a long table. “Tess, meet Jason and Keri. They have some news that I thought you would want to hear personally.”
Tess took a seat at the head of the table, while Terrance served them all hot cups of Earl Grey tea.
“It’s an honor to meet you,” Keri said, standing and walking over to a small projector at the other end of the table. She reached inside her pocket and retrieved a small data-crystal, which she placed into a slot on the projector. “I’ve heard so much about you, and what you have done to advance the cause.”
“Just doing what needs to be done,” Tess said as the lights began to dim.
A wide screen automatically lowered from the ceiling and the projector came on.
“You were summoned here,” the man called Jason said, “because we think you are the best first candidate for the Skeleton Key project.”
“Skeleton Key project? What’s that?” Tess asked.
Jason motioned for Keri to begin her presentation. A series of classified documents and images began to flash across the screen, as Jason continued, “The Skeleton Key project is a breakthrough in nanotechnology and allows us to ‘imprint’ an agent with a pseudo biometric signature that mimics an Overseer. In other words, we can inject a person with Nano cells that can trick any scanner or monitor into thinking that person is an Overseer. It’s like having a master key to all of the doors in the proverbial kingdom.”
“Imagine the possibilities,” Keri said excitedly. “With this technology, we will be able to infiltrate any sphere and overthrow the Overseer without much effort. By the time the Overseer Council realizes what’s happened, it will be too late.”
“Why me?” Tess asked.
“Well, for a start,” Jason said, “you are one of the best damn agents we have. If anyone is able to infiltrate an Overseer sphere and take the Overseer’s place, it’s you. Secondly, I’ve looked over your genetic profile and it seems you are the most compatible with the Nano cells.”
“So the Nano cells like me.”
Jason laughed. “Something like that. Compatibility is key to our success—it will ensure the cells replicate properly, with minimum side effects. This technology is like nothing else out there.”
“Sounds like a game changer,” Tess said, sipping on her tea.
