So, finally caught all the way up with Gail Simone’s Red Sonja issues. Still loving it. I read issues 9-11 last night. As with the past posts, some quick notes for future refreshers when I’m having to catch back up.

OSRIC! OSRIC! I knew this was coming but was still so excited to see Osric…

Osric being in the book is a fun story. I don’t watch television very much, I don’t know actors, I don’t know who is popular or even cult popular, I just don’t keep up. 

One day on Twitter, a bunch of people said, OH MY GOD GAIL OSRIC CHAU IS TALKING ABOUT THE ALL-NEW ATOM!

And I had no idea who they meant. He was tweeting that he had just discovered the book, and as a comic fan, he was thrilled to finally see a hero he could relate to (these are his words, not mine). 

Well, that’s ridiculously flattering, and then I found out he was on Supernatural, and is INCREDIBLY good-looking (which I only mention because he is INCREDIBLY good-looking! :) ), and is into geek culture.

So I was very very flattered and said so, and I watched some Supernatural and became a huge Osric fan. We talked some back and forth, and he said if there was every a Ryan Choi in tv or film, he wanted to play him, which was awesome.

Then I had a swordmaster role coming up in Red Sonja, and I thought, man, this would be a perfect role for Osric. So I asked if I could “cast” him in the book and he could NOT have been nicer, he was incredibly gracious and kind.

I had a huge line at ECCC almost the whole con through and I was getting exhausted, and finally I looked up and Osric was at my table and he was absolutely a doll, incredibly sweet and just waves of charisma coming off of him. 

I am ranting a little bit…I meet a lot of actors and in general I find them to be really quite nice people, very serious about their art. Osric is everything you want and hope someone you admire as an actor to be. Generous, kind, and funny. He’s a terrific guy. 

And he has a nice role in issue 12!
