Hey I had to let you know I just finished the audiobook for Vertigo yesterday. I had been waiting to start it till I know I was going to have long spans of time without interruption.Again like after book 1 the day after I finished it I am almost in depression because it's over. The back stories that you revealed in this book were just great. Alex's dad on the bridge sealing the blockade SO Emotional. The moments between her mom and dad, really the whole time the aliens were showing her those scenes, Wow. Really there is just so many points between characters you made that it just made for me such a great story. One last thing I just read by chance a review last weekend on book 1 where the reader was just furious the way you ended the book on I guess you would say cliffhanger, he used quite a different wording, So when I got to the end of book 2 I thought if that person was mad at the first ending they will be fit to be tied this time. I think he even said that you ended it like a book ending on the first shot of the war!!! I cracked up when I finished and thought about his/hers review. Any Thanks again,Best Regards, James

Alex's flashback scenes were very difficult to write - they became quite emotional for me, and none more so than her father's death. If the emotions came through to the reader/listener, then it was worth it.
The reaction to the end of Vertigo has actually been phenomenal. Yes, I've gotten yelled at for such a dramatic cliffhanger, but in a good way rather than a critical one. I think the difference is this was a bad-ass, "Yes!" sort of cliffhanger, while Starshine's was of the more worrisome, "are they going to die?" variety. Readers want to be angry at the Vertigo cliffhanger...but they just can't be, lol.
Just FYI, recording on the Transcendence audiobook begins next week :).
Hey thanks for letting me know about the audiobook, I'm hoping 60 days or so,but I'm happy just to hear your starting. Yours, James

Thanks - and to you! Mine's the 2nd. I've forever been glad my mother made it to the 2nd - was it terrible growing up with your birthday on April Fool's Day? Hopefully not.
Yes it was weird at times so many people didn't believe it was really my birthday even had a teacher at school went and verified I was telling the truth before she believed it wasn't a gag. Of course now I want everyone to for get it but now no one does. By the way I started the latest book in Kristine Kathryn Rusch's 1 million word saga after I finished Vertigo, have you heard of it? It started out a few years ago as The retrieval artist series, But she has sectioned off a group starting last Oct. Or so calling them the Anniversary Day Saga. Introducing a bunch of new characters in the same universe as all the earlier books and now with this months release,by the way she has been releasing 1 per month starting in Jan 2015, now we came back to most of the main players from the early books back in the main story line in the current release called "The Peyti Crisis". I have enjoyed it and was wondering if you know it.
Best James

Of cour..."I'm familiar with Ms. Rusch in general - she and her husband, Dean Wesley Smith, were early pioneers in indie publishing when the first Kindle came out and continue to be indie publishing advocates (though they've both also been traditionally published). I haven't heard of this series in particular; a quick glance at her Goodreads page reveals she's written a LOT of books! But sprawling sci-fi sagas with numerous is kind of my thing ;), so I'll look into it.
