Over the summer I was contacted by the producers of Anderson Cooper 360 to help them think through a special program they wanted to do on bullying. I was immediately impressed with the thoughtfulness and substance they brought to the issue and agreed to participate. This Friday, October 8th at 10 PM EST, CNN will air a town hall meeting entitled Bullying: No Escape, An AC 360 Special Report with PEOPLE Magazine and Cartoon Network.
The program shows different aspects of bullying; from American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox eloquently describing her school experience being bullied, to teens whose siblings have died from bullying, to reformed bullies, to bystanders. In addition to my contribution, Dr. Phil McGraw, Kevin Jennings, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education for the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, and Dr. Susan Limber of the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life at Clemson University, and Justin W. Patchin, from the University of Wisconsin, are all in attendance providing valuable insight.
I encourage anyone who wants to address this critical issue to watch this show and discuss it with people in your community. Hopefully, the dialogue will create opportunities for families and schools to reach out to each other so we can all work towards ending this crisis.
