So, I’m not sure how Jenny Frison pronounces her last name, but I pronounce it like “frisson.” I’m from an area with Cajun French roots, and when someone gets a random chill — those really eerie ones that run down your spine and cause you to shudder — we call it “The Frisson.”…
This is a funny story, in a way. A friend of mine, the first time I went to a Chicago con, brought me over to see Jenny’s work. I was busy and a bit rushed, but I finally made it over…this was a few years ago.
And I lost my mind. I was astounded by her work. I couldn’t believe she wasn’t comics-famous yet.
I got her info, she gave me a print, and I wrote to every editor at one of the big companies that I knew, and none of them scooped her up to do covers. I was completely flabbergasted, it made no sense to me. I couldn’t believe it. But this is how it is, sometimes, sometimes people miss ridiculous levels of talent that are right in front of them (editing is a tough, tough gig).
I have been trying to work with her for ages, and she obviously became the star she was always meant to be because really, let’s face it, she’s outdrawing almost everyone out there, period.
SO I finally get to work with her on Red Sonja, and every single month she just DESTROYS almost everything else on the stands. That first cover and last cover on this post are two of the best covers I’ve ever had, two of the best covers I’ve ever SEEN.
On top of that, she’s a lovely person in all ways.
Jenny, you amaze me and I am SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG FOR US TO WORK TOGETHER.
