Self Talk
We limit ourselves by the voice within us that constantly tells us we are inadequate, inconsequential, unproductive, half-witted, and so on.
These words don’t come to us consciously but these unreasonable words come to us in underlying messages with feelings, that say, “You are not supposed to have this.” “Did you really say that?” My favorite--which I find myself often repeat is, “It never fails!” meaning I always repeat something without thinking. I am trying to stop this way of thinking because when I say things like this, to myself, I am being very unreasonable--in other words I am expecting it to fail, which of course it does if that is the message I portray to myself. We have to do the positive self talk. The other day me and two of my grandchildren were doing crafts together and I had, what I thought was a good idea, and so I said, “Great idea, grandma!” My granddaughter looked at me quite odd, and replied, “You just called me grandma!” I acknowledged, “I was talking to me and giving myself a compliment.” I went on to tell them that we shouldn’t wait for other people to give us a compliment all of the time we should give ourselves compliments also.
Why should we always wait to be valued? Why do we need someone else to value us?
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserves your love and affection.”
Buddha, (c. 563-c. 483 BC)
If we feel of value we will also feel empowered and when we do get those compliments from other people we then feel that we can claim the praise which is being given. When we live with negative self talk we never feel deserving, we have a hard time receiving compliments and praise, we may pretend it is acceptable but we feel ill at ease. We feel fake. This negative self talk does not serve us in anyway at all. So why do we do this?
Most of us pick up these unworthy messages from when we were children. We were not always able to interpret messages and therefore some may not have been meant the way we may have perceive them. When this happens these false messages stored into our subconscious are activated and we feel those underlying notions that are still with us today.
Sometimes the self talk is not heard but experienced, in other words we feel uncomfortable and insecure with some idea or something that should move us towards the good things that we desire in life, and this happens because that self talk is telling us that we are not worthy of what it is that we would like, we then may step away from the idea that this is possible for us. You see until we change

our self talk we cannot change our lives and this all comes down to our change of thoughts about ourselves.
A great affirmation is:
I am worthy, I am valuable and I am deserving.
Affirmations are repeated often throughout the day if possible, however, first thing in the morning and the last thing at night is very important. This is the way we change our thoughts about ourselves. This replaces those hidden negative messages that repeat to us constantly. Once we start to change our thoughts life become beneficial to us and we activate positive places, situations and people into our lives, along with an abundance of well-being. How Wonderful is that!
