#8Sunday – Lunar Falls & Bur Oaks

Another Sunday, another 8 sentences. Welcome to my Weekend Writing Warriors installment, the weekly blog hop where writers of every genre post an 8-sentence snippet from something they’ve written. Last week, I began working my way through my current work in progress, Secrets of Lunar Falls. It’s book one in a paranormal romance trilogy.

In this snippet from chapter one our heroine, Carly Tipton, is new to the town of Lunar Falls, having just moved there for a job. She stops in the local diner to grab a quick bite to eat and strikes up a conversation with the friendly waitress about the goings on in the mysterious town. But Carly gets a little more information than she bargained for…

BurOak

“You’re saying someone killed themselves in my new house?” she asked, not at all sure how she felt about that.

“Well, no. I don’t believe it happened in the house exactly,” the woman answered. “The way I remember it, Lily Faraday was found out back … where she’d hung herself from a tree.”

“You’re joking.”

“No. In fact, the tree was an 80-year-old Bur Oak, and it was beautiful. But after Lily died, her father insisted on having the thing removed,” the woman said, speaking in hushed tones. “They chopped it down not a week later.”

Secrets of Lunar Falls is in the final rewrite stage. Hopefully, by the time you read this I will have met my deadline and have it off to the editor already.   **fingers crossed**
