Chapter 204: Etchings


Taweel slowly unsheathed his sword. Even though he knew what he would find, his eyes widened at the change God had wrought. The bared blade was covered with loops and scrolls, an intricate tracery that spelled out his expanded responsibility.


Tamaes leaned closer, touching the pretty whorls. He murmured, “Adin just taught me these names.”


Valerian loosed his spear and ran a hand down its haft. Intricate carvings had vanished, leaving smooth wood. “They are no longer under my hand.”


Adin lit up. “Do you realize what this means?”


Taweel grunted, but Valerian said it plainly. “We are trading places.”
