Do not despise little things

Gen 48:7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.

Very often we despise things because they are little. Little beginnings are not appreciated, little places are sometimes disdained and when we are seeking open doors – a little way can be missed altogether. Rachel was buried in the way of Ephrath, at a time of littleness in a place that is now known as Bethlehem. But Bethlehem will be forever remembered as the chosen birthplace of the king of Kings.

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

We are often misguided to search for prominence and seek attention, when our place in destiny is meant to be small and unnoticed …until God transforms a little seed into a giant tree. Out of Bethlehem, where Rachel is buried at a time when there was but a little way, emerges the ruler of the entire universe – Jesus.

Today, is there anything awesome God is doing in your life? It will more likely be found flickering in a seemingly insignificant corner. Do not despise it. Do not give in to the mockery targeted at the little. The best of God always seemed to start small. Learn from the tongue – so little a member yet so great in its importance. Or a little leaven that eventually leavens the whole lump. But the importance of smallness and the little way … the way of humility … this is the only way we can receive the kingdom of God.

Luk 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein

When asked to make a choice, Lot chose the well watered cities of Sodom …not knowing these were marked out for destruction …while Abraham remained in the small tent on harsh terrains … Abraham became the father of a blessed people … while Lot fell into mischief and many troubles. Do not despise the God of little beginnings, the God in the little way … who is close to the humble, the meek and poor in spirit. God has not forgotten you – though the way you see may be little.

Song.

God will make a way – Where there seems to be no way

He works in ways we cannot see – He will make a way for me

He will be my guide – Hold me closely to His side

With love and strength – For each new day

He will make a way – He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness – He’ll lead me

And rivers in the desert will I see – Heaven and earth will fade

But His Word will still remain

He will do something new today

Prayer: Lord, teach me to see and appreciate the little way you have made, and to follow it. Amen
