Telling on my addiction

Telling on my addiction
The group discussed Michaela’s relapse. Michaela said her relapse ‘just happened.’ The group was doubtful.

“If that #$%^&* hadn’t called me, I wouldn’t have gotten drunk,” Michaela insisted.
“Maybe not,” Julie said, “but if you hadn’t been ready to relapse, a phone call wouldn’t have gotten you drunk.” The group echoed that sentiment.

Michaela admitted she had been struggling with cravings, and that she was having a hard time dealing with resentment. She had been thinking about drinking, but didn’t think she would. The group asked her why she didn’t mention this to anyone, why she didn’t ‘tell on her addiction.’

Today I will remember relapse rarely just happens.

I will ‘tell on my addiction’ if I see any signs I might be drifting toward a relapse.
