Derrolyn Anderson Whoa. You can see it in his eyes in every single picture here.

Cookie It's so easy to be removed from celebrity deaths, to view it as just a passing headline, sad, but really - we didn't know them.
Robin Williams goes beyond that for some reason. Someone who was so successful and had so much to live for but was still stuck in such a dark place - beyond all the joy he brought to other people, this really is a tragedy.
That last pic especially.

Derrolyn Anderson So true. Reminds me of this:

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
'Good-morning,' and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich - yes, richer than a king -
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Edwin Arlington Robinson

I was just looking over a list of celebrity deaths in 2014 and blown away by how many I hadn't heard about. Which other one were you referring to?

Whoa. That just gave me the chills. My relatively young & fit husband was ALSO stricken by an out-of-the-blue heart attack at the age of 56 this year.
Unlike Rik, we got CPR started in time, and after a miraculous series of events I got him back. I feel so incredibly fortunate.

I hadn't seen your post, but I just read it and am covered in goosebumps again. I worked ICU for a few years too. I've seen hypothermia save so many people's brain function. Just amazing!!

One day while I was working in the ER, I was assigned a seriously boring position: monitoring the waiting room. My boring shift got exciting really quick. A lady came running in saying her husband had just passed out. I went out thinking I was dealing with a fainting spell, but found a man in his 50s slumped over in the passenger seat. He had vomited on himself. He didn't have a pulse. I started CPR with him in a sitting position and yelled for the security guard to run inside and tell them I needed a gurney for a full arrest in the parking lot. I became She-Woman and put him on the gurney myself, climbed on top and continued CPR. We got him back, he went to the cath lab for his massive heart attack, then was taken to ICU. ER nurses don't often find out what happens. A week later I took a patient up to ICU. I walked by a room, saw a man eating, and thought he looked familiar. On my way out, a woman runs up to me crying and hugging me. She pulls me into that room and introduces me to the man as his angel. He starts crying. I start crying. I saved his life.... As I tell you this story, I started crying again. I see miracles all the time and I'm so fortunate to be able to say that. Tragedy surrounds us, but if we look close enough, life is overwhelmed with miracles.

Aaaaannnnd now I'm a big, fat, mushy mess. Haha.

Cathryn Derrolyn your story hits home. I was in the first grade when my Dad had his heart attack at 41. He survived and is doing great but I vividly remember my teacher walking me out to my family member's car (can't remember who picked me up from school). My Dad was at work when it happened and luckily a co-worker made him go to the hospital. My Dad is so stubborn. I hope your husband has a full recovery and lives a long, happy life.

message 14: by Derrolyn (new)

Derrolyn Anderson Thanks everyone. He ended up having to go back in for open heart surgery in June but it's over a month ago now and we're up to walking several miles every day :)

@Shandra : How lucky that man was, and how amazing you are. You ARE an angel!

@Cathryn : I'm so glad that your dad made it to the hospital in time - I've heard so many terrible stories about stubborn men waiting too long.

@Courtnie : Give him an extra big hug!

It's incredibly ironic and so monumentally tragic that as we spent this summer fighting for life Robin Williams was overtaken by a terrible despair that made him feel hopeless enough to choose death.

All I can say is RIP.

Thank you so much!! I'm so glad his surgery went well!!! And yes, it's very sad to think of the demons Mr. Williams was battling. Tragic...
