Addendum

Meant to fit this into my long post below, but didn't manage it and don't feel like editing, so: Chris and I are both sick with some kind of respiratory crud that we seem to keep passing back and forth. (It seems to have gone through most of the remaining OLGC congregation, too.) Until today he has been the sicker one, but today I have lost my voice and, it seems, at least half of my ability to breathe.
