New Amazon Requirements May Mean Greater Losses For Authors

I received a disturbing email this morning from James at Goonwrite.com. James is a talented artist who designs book covers and wanted to share something he noticed which can only be described as a nasty surprise for many authors.

It seems Amazon has discovered a simple loophole for lowering their bottom line. By changing the size requirements on artwork from 2,500 pixels to a ridiculous 4,500 pixel length on the longest side, they can significantly increase the digital delivery fees they charge authors. An author who publishes through KDP could see their fees for a book sold for $2.99 go from $0.69 to a whopping $2.21.

I don’t know about anyone else, but those are some pretty scary figures to me. It could mean the difference between profit and loss for many writers.
