Second Heart by Dr. Santosh G. Huilgol and Santosh Avvannavar is a compilation of five wonderful short stories. This book can be called a work of ‘fiction for a cause’ as each story in it imparts knowledge and awareness about kidney diseases and the problems which we overlook very conveniently. Thus, we pay a big price for taking ourselves for granted. The authors have used a very simple narrative style to bring out this simple truth of life. The book addresses several social issues like pre-marital sex and pregnancy, the adverse effects of self-medication and consuming over-the counter medicines to cure ourselves. Love plays a predominant role in all the stories.
