Tables of Contents for the New Smut Project
This week the New Smut Project has released its Tables of Contents for both our anthologies–Between the Shores, erotica featuring negotiation and explicit consent; and Heart, Body, Soul, for characterization-based erotica (what I’ve sometimes called ‘personality porn’).
My own story for Between the Shores, “Provided For,” is a vampire piece. I’ve twisted some components of vampire mythology for my own purposes–these may have more in common with Morlocks, or even the delicate Eloi’s sophisticated forebears, than the undead Nosferatu–and of course, protagonist Vero is a nice vampire. Or at least she tries to be. It’s hard to be perfectly nice when you’re starving, and trying to hide your appetite from your human boyfriend, a decent man who really doesn’t deserve the horror of discovering exactly what’s gone on in Vero’s past.
Meanwhile, “Mistress of Victories” in Heart, Body, Soul follows Susan through an identity crisis–the sort that only happens when you find yourself on the brink of becoming a goddess. Trickster Luke is there to guide her, but he’s got baggage and identity issues of his own.
As you might expect from me, both pieces feature femdom. Also, perhaps as a result of my sitting down this spring to read the past half decade’s worth of Best Food Writing anthologies, “Mistress of Victories” takes place above a hipster cafe, and “Provided For” is, well. I’m not saying it’s vampire food porn, but it’s very much a story about appetite.
In fact, I’ve been preparing the first editing pass at our accepted manuscripts, and am delighted to find many different writers’ approaches to tackling food, religion, negotiation, kink, identity, intimacy, sensuality, and a whole host of other ideas–and, of course, some deliriously hot sex. I’ve had pictures burned into my brain that I wanted to print out and frame. I’ve read scenes so hot they made my ears ring. I cannot wait to share these stories with you.
