No, I'm Not Dead

Sometimes books sell faster than they can be kept in stock. If a title goes out of print, this can cause readers to think something’s happened to the author. More than a year ago an inquiry received at the publisher’s e-mail asked about a reprint of one of my volumes. “I’m supposing that James Pylant might be dead by now,” she wrote.

It was time to get involved with social media, to show that I’m still alive.

Shortly before my first book, Destiny in Texas, went out of print, I found a used one being offered on Amazon for $198. Some months later another used copy surfaced on that site for $467. Then a New Jersey-based bookseller began offering a used Destiny in Texas with an even more ridiculous price tag: $4,999.

Apparently, someone else thinks I’m dead.
