“EAT.GEEK.PLAY” review “5 Reasons To Read Ballistic”
By Chris Calzia @cmcalzia on Twitter
“It’s only a five-issue limited series, but it packs one helluva bang! Ballistic is the first title to be released by Black Mask Studios, an independent, Los Angeles-based publisher headed by Matt Pizzolo, Brett Gurewitz (gutarist of Bad Religion and founder of Epitaph Records) and Steve Niles (writer/creator of 30 Days of Night). Issue #1 was released over a year ago, in the spring of 2013, and it’s taken a full year for the series to be completed. Why so long? Well, this is independent comics, folks. There are no deadlines for the artist or writer. The book will be done when it’s done.
Ballistic can be one of those hard to find comics because of its independent and lengthy release, but it’s sure to be on the shelves of your more alternative comic book store. Here’s six reasons to scavenge your local area for a finer comic book shop and purchase a copy of Ballistic right away.
Darick Robertson’s Art
Welcome back Mr. Robertson. It’s so thrilling to see your art again. I’ve been a fan of your art since the Wolverinecomics you penciled in the 1990’s. You’re work on Transmetropolitan is some of the best, and Ballastic tops even that. With Ballastic you’ve created a world that is psychotic and intense, full of strange things and a crude sense of humor. And the bright, luminescent coloring provided by your colorist, Diego Rodriguez, brings readers even further into the insanity that is Repo City State. You choose your projects wisely, Mr. Robertson. ”
