Connected to Christ (Part I)
Gen 47:5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee: 6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
Our connections matter. Who have you been connected to? Notice that the best of the land is given to Joseph and set before him and not to his brothers. But the brothers have come to Joseph. It is the connection to Joseph that makes it possible for the best of the land to be offered. This is not a minor detail. Our connections to Christ as we surrender to Him bring us into favor. Similarly, our disconnection will cost dearly in terms of access to our help. Our dependence on God and reliance on him fully is our point of access to the resources we need.
Imagine, the brothers beginning to initiate their own plans outside dependence on Joseph. What a wasted unnecessary effort that would have been. In Christ, all resources have been laid down – for our sustenance and to finance our assignments. But we have severed the connections because of sin and self. To get back on track … find a way to be with Christ afresh … to rededicate your life afresh …to love Him afresh. Learn to love Him more. If sin has caused a disconnection, then repent, never to go back. Soon you will discover that the land of Egypt is before Him and not before you. Also, He is encouraged to make those connected to Him, dwell in peace in Goshen. Christ knows the location of safety – it is the place of dwelling in Him … He makes us dwell in green pastures, leads us beside the still waters …He restores our soul. What a delight to be connected to Him? What a privilege to be joint-heirs with Him to whom all has been bequeathed?
Song.
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for His own Name’s sake.
Prayer: Lord, let me forever be connected to you. Do not permit me to do whatever will lead to a disconnection. Amen
