An Interview with Transgender Writer, Amber Neko Meador

Last week I sat down with Maddy Love on her podcast, A Minnesota Trans Atheist Podcast, to discuss my collection of transgender fiction (or as I like to call it ‘transgender speculative fiction’), Other Selves. During the interview we talked politics, religion, trans stuff, writing, and of course the individual stories in the collection.

You can listen to this interview at:

Some of the topics of discussion include:

-Science fiction that occurs in the future, by default, has to make predictions on the direction of current technology. You do a wonderful job of creating worlds that the reader can identify with, while tossing into each story just a little bit more advanced tech. Are the technological advances in these stories what you think will happen, what you want to happen, or what you fear will happen?

-As the future progresses throughout the book, governments recognize four distinct genders. Is this the direction you would like to see, simply the direction you think we may be headed, or something else?

- Favorite lines: Jacob responding to Kami on the question of choice in “Last Day on Earth” “The only choice I eventually made about all of this was to live as a man, or die as a woman.” A little bit later Jacob asks Kami, “if it was a choice, would it even matter?”

-Hard question again, and feel free not to answer this, in fact I can completely edit this out. The final story of the book was probably the most moving, how much of yourself is written into the Amber of the final story? The short answer… a lot!

So, if you’re wanting to know more about Amber Neko Meador, or her book of trans fiction, Other Selves, there here’s a great chance to do it :)
