Dead Air

Dead Air will give someone working radio a heart attack. Silence that extends more than the time it takes to breath between sentences has been known to sprain neck muscles as heads snap up in fear...and injure fingers slammed into control buttons to turn on a microphone so you can break that deadly silence with some inane blather.

No, silence is not welcome in radio. But it is very welcome outside of work where even the sound of a busy street can act as white noise and give you space to be silent.

In silence you can listen for thoughts and creative recipes for dinner. You can relax and re-enact your conquest in the last game of "Settlers of Catan." You can smile and you don't have to explain yourself to anyone.
