A Glimpse of Eternity

Gen 46:30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.

When we catch a glimpse of eternity, we are immediately freed of all the shackles and attractions of the earth. Our clamoring to be something or to live very long or to do this or that is really a sign that we are yet to see the spiritual Goshen. The early Christians and I believe Christians in tough periods or hostile locations are helped by the gift of this rare vision. It is easy to release everything including our earthly suit of mud if we caught a glimpse of our eternal body waiting for us to last all through eternity without aging. Sin loses all attraction and is seen as the enemy it is. Like Esther, we can say if I perish, I perish.

This proclamation really means, Lord tear apart if you wish – all my ambitions … and the Jacob who out-schemed Esau and Laban understood ambitions … like most of us. Jacob declares that God is more than able to bring all His plans to pass without our slightest maneuvers except that we simply trust Him. All our maneuvers must die, all our ambitions must bow to His will, all our projections must be buried …and all placed in the casket of divine providence to be resurrected as God desires.

Note that the previously fainting Israel lived well over a decade after this declaration. Esther lived to become a heroine after she buried her ambitions. God is waiting for us to catch a glimpse of what He has already prepared for us. We will equally say…”Now, let me die” …but God has now found a rare instrument for His glory – an uncommon ally … If only we declared this earlier, when we are younger. Teach your children and youths more about Heaven ..and see the difference in how God is able to use lives that are “dead” to the world’s magnetic pull. Because Jesus is alive … we can face tomorrow whatsoever it brings – even death has lost all its sting … it will only one day be a glorious transition. Halleluyah to the Lamb …

Song.

Let us, then be true and faithful – Trusting serving every day

Just one glimpse of Him in glory – will the toils of life repay.

When we all get to Heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, We’ll sing and shout the victory.

Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold;

Soon the pearly gates will open, we shall tread the streets of gold.

When we all get to Heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, We’ll sing and shout the victory.

Prayer: Lord, Help me to release all my selfish ambitions and fears …knowing that Jesus is alive to see me through whatever comes – even death. Amen

The Songs of Joseph is an integration of encouragement scriptural devotions, prayers and a compendium of songs of mercy, salvation, new beginnings and victory. We can expect as we trust and obey that our end will indeed be ultimately glorious because God works His marvellous agenda. Be blessed as you read and sing along, daily. Edited by Bolade Apampa
