While most tourists in Singapore flock to Orchard Road shops like ants drawn to honey, I visit Chulalongkorn's elephant in a quiet part of town. The Thai king gave it to Singapore as a memento of his first foreign travel. Rizal mentioned this elephant in his diary and I can't over the idea that Rizal and I gaze ont the same elephant a century apart.
