The title of this post is actually "How to Kern Type Perfectly", but you and I know there's no magic formula for perfect kerning. Instead, Rob Sutton shares a tip he learned from an esteemed mentor:

She suggested turning the type upside down, that way you don't read the word, you merely look at the shapes the characters make and the space that's created between them….

It was a great tip, and one I still use today.
