Vol III scheduled completion

Hi everybody,

Final update: It's out - I finished early. Hope you like it. Darcy's Tale, Volume III on Amazon

I have been receiving quite a number of questions regarding the completion date forVolume III: The Way Home. So far, it looks good for mid-August. The book is largely complete, in that the story stretches from beginning to end, although there are one or two thin spots, and a couple of letters yet to be written. Unless my world blows up, another month ought to do it.

7/20 Update

I am now pretty firm on a release date of August 17! :-)

Stan

P.S. By the way, be sure to comment on the two latest extracts, even though I have already toned down the Epilogue section I posted; the more feedback I get, the less uncertainty I feel, and the sooner I’ll be able to let go of the darn’ thing. :-)

Rhae52 My day has been made!!! I have been waiting for any word as to when Vol. 3 will be out. As of late, good P&P fanfics are few and far between. I CAN'T WAIT!

Stanley Hurd Thanks, guys!

I wrote the words "The End" two nights ago, so it's just polishing now. I'm pretty excited! I plan to get it into Amazon on Aug. 17th.

Diane You referenced two excerpts from volume III. Where would I find those?

Diane Sorry. Extracts...

Stanley Hurd Hi Diane,

Excerpts, extracts, rubbish I need help with…pretty much all the same. ;-) You can click on “Scrawls and Screed” at the right top of the page and find all my blog entries. Thanks for asking!

Diane Thanks for the tip on excerpts/extracts. I enjoyed them both and am looking forward to to volume III

Michelle Yay!!! Very excited for Volume III

message 13: by Belle (new)

Belle Looking forward to Vol III! Excellent interpretation so far.

Now, this may be a little early and presumptuous to ask, but have you ever given any thought to perhaps writing the story of another Austen hero after you finish with Darcy?

message 14: by Stanley (new)

Stanley Hurd Dear Belle,

I have, in fact, I’m thinking about doing Cpt. Wentworth, and his back story. Or I could take Colonel Fitzwilliam from Darcy’s Tale and make a new story for him. Do you have any thoughts?

Stan

message 15: by Diane (new)

Diane I for one would really love a Cpt. Wentworth perspective!

I am a selfish creature, Mr. Hurd. I must admit I would despair to have you write a story on Cpt. Wentworth. I am a complete P&P fanfic junkie and if you focus your writing talents on Persuasion, I know I will get hooked and become completely lost in another JAFF realm - once again. ;-) My comfort is Persuasion fan fiction is much smaller in scale than P&P. Counting the days until Vol III is published.

I would love to read about Cpt. Wentworth! I look forward to whatever you decide to write next.

Dear Rhae52,

Would you then prefer a “sequel” featuring Colonel Fitzwilliam?

Mr. Hurd: Frankly, either back story would be fantastic. I love the POV of Darcy that you have crafted. However, I am very curious as to how you would construct Col. Fitzwilliam's characterization. Of course, I have my own opinion of the ideal Colonel and I wonder what you would make of his character.

Again, it does not matter to me which character you choose to focus on, as I know I would enjoy your work regardless. (Of course, for my sanity, I would probably prefer the Colonel's back story. ;-))

Stanley Hurd Rhae,
Ok, food for thought. We see more of Colonel Fitzwilliam in vol III (did you notice my update at the top, that it is out now?). I like him, but he is, I think, in danger of turning into a crusty old soldier, and needs someone to write a girl into his life to save him from that fate.

Ceri Congratulations on the release of your new book! I don't see it on Amazon UK yet, hopefully it'll be there soon :)

Thank you, Ceri; I very much hope it lives up to your expectations. Knowledgeable Janeites such as yourself and the others here on Goodreads and Meredith's blog are those I most wish to satisfy.

This is the link to the UK page: Darcy's Tale, Volume III

message 23: by Ceri (new)

Ceri Thanks for the link! I searched for author name Stanley Michael Hurd and for some reason it only returned volumes I and II. I hope to read them soon :)

OMG!!!! IT'S BEEN OUT FOR NEARLY A WEEK!!!! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE 17TH!

Yes. Col. Fitzwilliam definitely needs a woman; that's a plan.

OFF TO AMAZON.

Actually, I should explain; the early release was just the result of more rookie mistakes on my part. I had fully intended to release the book on the 17th as advertised. But as a marketing experiment, I had bought ad space in a magazine that, I thought, came out after that. But it was in the subscribers’ homes a full month ahead of when I thought, so I had to do a bit of a crash to meet that deadline, or lose the benefit of an expensive ad. The experiment required that the two sets of readers get the word some time apart, so I could tell which group was buying; except I started to feel really bad that you guys were waiting, so I went ahead and notified you all here, and also the folks over at The Republic of Pemberley. So that’s how things got a little mixed up, for which you have my apologies.

No apologies necessary. Currently on Chapter 6. Thanks.
