Next book in the Tunnels series

Yes, finally working on it ... felt as though I'd lost control of my car on an icy road for the first couple of chapters, but I think I'm back on track now ... and the proposed title for the new book is Spiral. It may change, but Barry Cunningham of Chicken House likes it too.

Jonathan I CANT WAIT TILL THESE BOOK COMES OUT!!!

message 2: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Thank you, Jonathan. Bracing myself to write a scene tonight that makes me shiver when I think about it. Major Eww! factor.

Laurie(Time Stand Still) Do you write everyday and what are your writing goals? (pages or word count or something else)

message 4: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Hi Laurie. I do write most days(or more often at night), but I don't set myself any goals as sometimes the thought of putting down new scenes is just too painful. Have to be in the right frame of mind for that, so instead I just edit and re-edit existing chapters, which probably explains why it takes me around a year to write a book. I long to be faster because I've got another two projects I'm dying to finish, but the Tunnels series has to come first. Maybe one day ...

message 5: by David (new)

David Thacker Do you know why Closer is not scheduled to be published in the United States until February of 2011? I am dying to read it!

message 6: by Etta (new)

Etta I went online to Amazon UK and bought it there. They ship it faster that Amazon US.

Hi David, and thank you! The US editions have always been released ten or so months after the UK ones because that's the way the series started off. I did ask if they could be published simultaneously, but the UK and US publishers wanted to leave it the way it is. The lead times are much longer in the US, and there's a substantial amount of additional work that goes into the US versions. Not just on design (the US editions are my favorites), but also some extra tidying up of the prose. The US editor based in NY is just incredible - she spots things that I ask to have changed in reprints of the UK versions!

Very kind of you to say so, Vranystepan. I just bought the DVD of a Czech film called Marketa Lazarová! And we're really hoping we get the opportunity to visit the Czech Republic - maybe next year.

Mayra Hello Roderick!

First I would like to start by saying I absolutely LOVE the Tunnels' series!! I'm amazed by how you created a whole exiting world, sometimes I think I can feel it beneath my feet :)

I live in Mexico and the last book to come out here was Free Fall (Caida Libre in spanish) I don't know why it's taking so long for Closer (Al limite) to come out here, I am dying to know how it continues!!

I'm ecstatic to find out you are already working on the next book, can hardly wait.

Hugs!

message 10: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Hi Mayra,

So good you got in touch and it's wonderful that you like the books. Al limite should be out soon there with you I hope - the Mundo Tuneles fan site usually has all the dates for the releases. And the next book called "Spiral" has already been published here in the UK so it should be winging its way to Mexico at some point in the future!!

With kindest regards

Roderick

Maria B. Quagliana 'ello Roderick!
i was just wondering how a fellow like you might be inspired to write a book such as "Tunnels". I also was wondering what you did in the writing process, and what did Brian Williams do?

message 12: by Beth (new)

Beth spiral was amazing
very strange but wonderful!!!!

message 13: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Hi Beth, many thanks for the nice message! I agree it is rather strange.

message 14: by Beth (new)

message 15: by Mayra (new)

Mayra I finally got hold of "Closer" oh we are so far behind here in Mexico! lol.

I was just about to begin reading it, when I decided I will re-read the whole series first, since I read Free Fall so long ago. Ahhh I'm so exited to read Tunnels again! It was the book that made me fall for this series.

And it will make me feel even more thrilled to finish and finally read Closer!! yay!

message 16: by Štěpán (new)

Štěpán Vraný A few minutes ago I read Spiral and I'm really stunned about it. It's simple amazig book. All that waiting was worth it and I really look forward to next episode.

Many thanks!

message 17: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Hi Mayra and Štěpán, and thank you so much for your messages, which have really cheered me up as I toil away on T6. So much uncertainty, but I think I'm getting somewhere on it ...

message 18: by Eirik (new)

Eirik Hi Roderick!

I have read the four first books, and can't wait to read the next book. I live in Norway so right now im reading them on norwegian, but want to read them on english as well. I'm a 15 year old boy, and i love the tunnels books. I have a question: The fifth book "Spiral", is this the last book? I really dont want the books to end :D Please answer if you got time :)

message 19: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Hi Eirik, and thanks so much for your message. I've got all the Norwegian versions on a shelf not far from where I write - I thought the publishers did a great job on Spiral which I received a couple of weeks ago. To answer your question, there's one more book in the series yet to come, and I'm working on it right now!
Kindest regards
Roderick
